| There's also a YouTube with farting hippos that's totally adorable. (Sorry I don't have the link right this second.) Not Haller hippos, but they're half-submerged and farting up bubbles like mad. Made me laugh out loud! (Do you think Stephen smiles at the things we find amusing?!) |
|
| David from Paris, France |
| Hello. I totally agree with you Rosalynd. Uploading videos of our friends will be a very good idea. To Jim : thank you for the "raid on dairy cubes" video. In order to wait for videos from Mombasa, I propose you to share a Breakfast of hippos : http://youtube.com/watch?v=uR9wSseoOVo . |

| I meant "going on there" - typos, arrrrgggh! |
|
| Rosalynd from Massachusetts |
| How great would it be if Stephen and his people posted an occasional YouTube of what's going ontheir - I mean, what a fantastic adjunct to the regular photos and this blog! And I have the feeling that they would be happy to not show the animal on animal violence that has made some of the tv productions basically impossible for a lot of us to enjoy. Seeing that hippo move was amazing - they move like short, extra-flexible locomotives. (Thanks, always, Jim!) |

| That a beautiful video Jim. I am really wondering about to appling for a visa to Kenya. I think Mombasa will be one my first destination... ;)... |

| Jim from Mass: Are you KIDDING me? If not for you (and Stephen) I would never have understood the magnitude of Dr. Haller's contributions. In case it's not clear, my opinion is that we should all post whatever links we think valuable, pertinent or interesting, and it's up to the individual to decide whether or not to pursue the link. I don't pursue them all, but I got lucky and took a good, hard look at this one! Thank you. |

| Dear Dr. Haller: You have done more for the earth and its inhabitants than most people will ever do. I know there are many involved, but your years of study, effort and dedication have culminated in a rare and special gift to the world. Here is my wish: That your shining achievements light the path for those who follow. Well done. |

| Jim: What would we do without the interesting links that you give us? I always enjoy reading your posts because of all of your interesting links. Thanks for sharing! |
|
| Denver Owen & Mzee fan |
| Jim from Mass: Marvelous link! Toward the bottom, the piece details Sally and Potty's histories prior to, along with their arrivals in, Haller Park (Bamburi Nature Trail). These hippos were absolutely necessary to maintain the park's water system (hense its plant life that Dr. Haller was working so hard to establish). After that, there's some fascinating information on the extremely valuable roles crocodiles play in the system. The article says you can even get a crocodile steak in the restaurant there--Eeeew!!!! |

| I agree with 'Rosalynd from Massachusetts' that I would love to hear Dr. Haller's reflections about his ceation. ... You can read a sort of synopsis of his book at ... [ http://www.cosy.sbg.ac.at/~zzspri/travels/BANweb/bantrail.html ]. |

| We can't believe how Owen & Mzee can communicate with each other! We think it is cool how Owen acted like Mzee before they were separated! We think that Owen and Cleo will be best friends. We think it was interesting that Mzee was like a mother to Owen. we are sad that Owen and Mzee had to be separated but we're glad that they each have made new friends. We hope that Owen and Mzee will have a happy life. |

| Lisa from Boston, MA, USA |
| A wonderful story - and a wonderful guest. I wonder if Dr. Haller ever imagined how famous his park would become when he started it?! Hope everyone had a wonderful Easter. We're having unseasonably cold weather across the whole US and I worry about birds and animals that are trying to feed and start raising their young now, just doesn't seem things are quite right anymore. I wish all the animals of the world could be taken care of as well as those in Haller Park. Maybe someday... |
|
| Rosalynd from Massachusetts |
| Dear Stephen - would Dr. Haller ever do a "guest blog" for you, filling us in on his thoughts about his creation as it is today? |
|
| David from Paris, France |
| You are very welcome Jim. I am glad you appreciated. The reunion of Mzee and Dr Haller makes our famous tortoise look younger. Thank you very much to all the Haller park staff for taking care of its "residents". |

| please please show us more about how dr haller did the terraforming; when i first began to read this blog, i was fascinated-- and have since passed it on to others. when i showed them the very few pictures of how it started, and what it looked like, we marvelled at the vision of dr haller. is there a different website that documents the evolution of this park? i want more; never enough. given that someones current dream is to plant a million trees in africa, would dr haller allow me, (or--'us' as in globally) to raise and contribute plants or send seeds? a question, is it possible for you to send me some dirt so i CAN? i'd love that; my kids would be thrilled!
my email address is thymesunion@gmail.com; so we can make arrangements and talk about seeds. |
